Sometimes in life, things happen to make you rethink about your actions or the situation you are in. Sometimes the things that happen may not necessary be a good thing, but never the less, by some divine madante, it has to happen. So when it does, what do you do? Do you question this divine mandante or do you just accept it and live life?
My 6 days to the Philippines was life changing. Even as I blog now, I am constantly thinking about the children and what has become of them after the camp. Any teacher that is reading this now will understand what I mean when I mention the starfish story. It was like that in the Philippines. I went there knowing fully that my actions can only impact them for the moment, what happens after that is purely by God's divine grace. But what I did not expect was the impact that would create on me. In the story of the starfish, one man just kept throwing back starfishes that got wash on shore. Try as he might, he was not able to save all the starfish because the tide keep bringing in more. The negative self would say why bother, the positive self would say at least I am making a difference to one. I went with the idea to make a difference in one life, but I came back with a difference made in my life.
I will never forget what one of the ladies told us on the last day. She said" Before you came, we (the children) were all like bastards. No one cared for us, no one would serve us food or wash our dishes." Even as I think of this tears are forming in my eyes, Before we can they were like bastards.... This sentence really changed me. No child deserve to be treated like crap. It was not their choice to be born there, like its not my choice to be borned into such a blessed family. We can choose where to eat, we can choose where to study, we can choose what to wear but we can never choose where to be born. I guess that is the only thing we cannot have control over. It pains me to think that after those 3 days, the children would be going back to the slumps. It pains me even more to know that even in the state they are in, they are so willing to praise God and they have so much joy.
Is it only when people are in such a state that they will finally acknowledge the presence of a divine being? Is it only in troubles do people cry out to God? This trip made me relook at myself and my present status. It made me realise that when you bless someone with the little that you have, you will get so much more in return. No doubt this trip burned a HUGE hole in my pocket, but the things I learn from this trip, even all the money in the world can't buy it.
Philippines happened.

A picture speaks a thousand words.. There is no need for me to write much abt my trip. The pictures tell it all.
