Fashion Disaster?- Signs of early warning
From bell bottoms to loudly coloured shirts, from huge baggy jeans to body hugging tops, the fashion sense of Singapore have evolved from somewhat conservation to a parade of flesh. Now a days, walking down Orchard road can be a very painful thing to do. It seems like at every bent there is someone wearing something grossly matched or barring some part of their body nobody wished to see. Are Singaporeans slowly evolving into walking fashion disaster? And do the way we dress reflect on your moral values?
It seems that with the liberation of the society comes very unthinkable behavior. Once it would seem taboo to be making out in public, now at almost every bus stop there would be a couple doing it. Once it was forbidden to have premarital sex, now it seems like it has became a norm. Moral values and ethics are being compromised more and more with the changing of the time. A classic example would be our dress sense. In the early days it would be a crime for decent women to bare certain parts of their body. Now, every youth I know is walking around orchard road and showing the world how “beautiful” his/her butt crack looks like. Furthermore the material used for clothes are getting lesser and the price of this tiny pieces of cloth are sky rocking. The rate of teens resorting to crime and teens selling their bodies are increasing. Pregnant teens are sprouting out every where like mushroom. Have we neglected our values so that we can be “hip”? Have we became too smart of our own good?
No doubt the society is changing, the education system is improving, the standard of living is getting better by the day, but are we loosing ourselves to the change? Are we becoming another Japan? Our liberal fashion sense may not be something we should be proud off, it could be an early warning sign that we are losing our morality and ethics.
